Korea’s bestselling children fashion brands start selling worldwide
Seoul, South Korea – August 24th, 2014
This month KKAMI.nl introduces the best South Korean children fashion to the world. Twelve Korean brands, including Annika, Amber and Happy Prince, were selected for this online market based on their excellent sales record in Korea. Retailers from around the world can now, for the first time, stock the Autumn and Winter 2014 collections of these bestsellers.
Helping Korean brands make international sales
“Why don’t they sell this back home?”, was what Ludo Andringa, like many other visitors to Korea, thought when he first laid eyes on Korean children fashion. Ludo, a Dutch businessman living in Seoul, jumped at this opportunity and contacted the suppliers. It then quickly became clear to him what was holding back international sales. Ludo: “They are just way too busy to figure out complicated customs regulations or to set up sales channels abroad. I guess it is the downside of their national success.” And Ludo admits the language is a barrier as well: “It’s a good thing I have Korean business associates.” KKAMI, an initiative by Ludo and his two Korean business associates, now helps these brands to reach a global audience by selling their fashion products on an online wholesale market.
KKAMI selects brands based on their track record in Korea. Only bestsellers are allowed on the wholesale site. Ludo explains: “This makes these brands a sure thing for retailers, while allowing them to offer something new to their customers.” KKAMI is confident there is also a demand for these products outside of Korea. There were already several Korean websites retailing these brands to foreign customers. And for the past two years KKAMI has been successfully wholesaling Korean brands to retailers in the Netherlands and Belgium. Ludo: “Positive feedback from customers and inquiries from retailers in other countries confirmed that we were on to something. So now we introduce these brands to the rest of the world.”
Korean children fashion is unique
These brands are bestsellers because they have an original and distinctive style and excellent quality. But it is not just the design which makes them unique, it is also their way of working. They launch with small collections, which is sold from stock, and add new items on a weekly basis during the season. This assures they are always on top of the latest fashion trends. “This is something that retailers who normally pre-order clothing need to get used to. But they should realize this way of working enables a better cashflow and stock management”, says Ludo based on his personal experience.
Early 2011 the founders of KKAMI started a retail webshop in South Korea. As a reseller they built strong relationships with Korea’s best suppliers of children fashion and learned to identify bestsellers. In September 2012 KKAMI.nl was launched to sell Korean children fashion to retailers in the Netherlands and Belgium. Now, less than two years later, retailers worldwide can conveniently buy the best Korean children fashion at one online market.
